Peugeot Landtrek 4x2 Allure Test Review
The Landtrek double cab was launched in SA at the end of 2021 in 2 models offering 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. Aimed squarely at the leisure market, they offer plenty of space and comfort as well as a very comfortable ride in all conditions.
Our test vehicle was the 4x2 version dubbed Allure. This still offers very high spec with combination leather and cloth seats, large infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, dual zone climate control and all the other refinements that one expects from modern vehicles.
All models are powered by a 1.9l 4 cylinder turbodiesel providing 110kW and 350Nm to the rear wheels, in this case, through a very smooth 6 speed automatic transmission. Eco, normal and sport modes are available at the press of a button.
Our test routine included a visit to the farm so our 60km stretch of dirt road was covered in comfort and with the vehicle always tracking easily and very little bouncing around, even on the rougher sections. Large pools of standing water were easily forged and care taken through muddy sections.
Driving around on the farm roads was easy, although the sheer size of the Landtrek can cause some concern when trying to drive through narrow sections of road lined by bushes and shrubs.
The next facet of the test was putting a load on the rear. Approximately 700kg, noting that the Landtrek is rated for a load in excess of 1 ton. We stuck to tar roads for this part of the test and the weight on the rear was barely noticeable. Perhaps the only difference noted was when pulling off from a standing start, otherwise the vehicle still cruised very comfortably at 120km/ hour.
Fuel economy for the farm trip, including the loaded return trip was 8.5l/ 100km. At the end of the test period that then included another 400km of general and urban driving, the economy for the entire period was 8.6l/100km.
Currently priced at R579 900 as tested, the 4x4 Active model is R669 900. A 5 year/ 100 000km service plan is included.
